BACKPACKING & LOVE

by Syed Farooq on September 27, 2020

HERE’S TO ALL THE PLACES WE WENT. AND HERE’S TO ALL THE PLACES WE’LL GO. AND HERE’S TO ME, WHISPERING AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN: I LOVE YOU.  – JOHN GREEN

When we met, Alex and I were both working at REI. I was already a backpacking native of the Pacific Northwest and Alex had recently moved from the south to Portland, OR. He grew up camping in the backwoods of Tennessee, but had never gone backpacking before. When we first started hanging out, I was training for a thru hike and Alex was inspired by the whole process. Soon after, Alex got outfitted for his first backpacking trip with an Atmos AG. I took him out on his first backpacking trip in the Mount Adams Wilderness, WA and he was hooked!

Ever since that first date, our lives have been one big adventure together. From living in the San Juan Islands and going on road trips to Yosemite, to backpacking all around the Pacific Northwest, we’ve always made it a priority to discover new places together. Thinking back on some of our fondest memories of adventuring together, our Osprey packs are almost always close by. They are a valued piece of gear that carries our favorite home away from home: a campsite deep into the wilderness.

At this point, one of us will get an idea to go somewhere, and the other one will go, “Oh hell yeah!” Naturally, we’ll both immediately walk into our gear room and start packing up our Osprey packs – it’s basically become a weekly routine for us.

After four years of being together, it only felt right to incorporate our packs into our wedding day. We had a friend burn our last name onto pieces of redwood we got in Redwoods National Park and tied them to our packs to create this beautiful photo that carries so much meaning to us. Here’s to many more adventure together!
